Water heater scale. Scale deposits inside a tank water heater from very hard water reduce heat transfer efficiency and can coat the heating element. Chloramine: the second issue that softeners do not solve

SNWA switched the Las Vegas Valley distribution system from free chlorine to monochloramine disinfection in 2003. Monochloramine is a more stable disinfectant than free chlorine, which reduces disinfection byproduct formation in the distribution system.
