Water softener
PurestShield
Metered softener. Resin captures the calcium and magnesium, and it regenerates only when it needs to.

What it does
A metered, salt-based softener that removes the calcium and magnesium that make water hard.
- Removes calcium and magnesium hardness through ion exchange
- Gives better lather and less soap scum
- Helps reduce scale build-up in fixtures, plumbing, water heaters, dishwashers and laundry equipment
- Meters your household water use and regenerates only when the resin needs it
How it works
Service
Hard water passes through the mineral tank. The resin captures calcium and magnesium and exchanges them for sodium or potassium ions.
Regeneration
When the resin reaches its programmed capacity, the control valve draws brine from the brine tank. The brine releases the hardness the resin has collected.
Rinse and return
The resin is recharged and the softener is ready for the next cycle.
Benefits
True hardness removal
Calcium and magnesium are removed, not masked.
Demand-based operation
Metered control responds to your actual household water use.
Improved cleaning
Better lather and less soap scum.
Appliance protection
Helps reduce scale build-up in water-using equipment.
Professional configuration
Capacity and cycle settings are matched to your water hardness and demand.
Six sizes
Service flow runs from 2.5 to 12.5 gallons per minute across the series.

Standard equipment: black mineral tank, black 15 x 17 x 36 inch rectangular brine tank, 1-inch standard distributor and a metered electronic control valve. A mineral-tank jacket and an outdoor cover are optional.
Sizing: a typical household may use approximately 80 to 100 gallons per person per day. Capacity is only one part of proper sizing, because the unit must also meet the peak service-flow demand of the home. A water-treatment professional should verify hardness, iron, manganese, plumbing size, occupancy and available drain and electrical connections before installation.
Source: Purest Dealer Group technical data sheet, rev 09/2026. Grain capacity is stated at the indicated salt dosage. Final selection must account for hardness, iron, household demand and peak flow. Performance depends on source-water chemistry, flow demand, programming, salt dosage, installation and routine service.
Which homes it fits
The right PurestShield size depends on hardness, iron, household demand and peak flow. The free water test measures them first.
Questions about the PurestShield
Hard water passes through a mineral tank that holds ion-exchange resin. The resin exchanges calcium and magnesium ions for sodium or potassium ions.
It is a metered softener, so the control valve responds to actual household water use. It regenerates only when the resin needs it, not on a fixed calendar.
Yes. It is a salt-based system. During regeneration the control valve draws brine from the brine tank to recharge the resin.
Six sizes, from the 24K to the 80K. Service flow runs from 2.5 to 12.5 gallons per minute, and capacity at 15 lb/ft³ salt runs from 22,500 to 75,000 grains.
Capacity is only one part of proper sizing. The unit must also meet the home’s peak service-flow demand, and a water-treatment professional verifies hardness, iron, manganese, plumbing size, occupancy and the drain and electrical connections.
The control valve has a battery backup that helps keep the clock accurate during a power outage.
